Detailed Description

Scenic LED products involve sending an animated video image to a number of creative LED modules, forming the pixels of the image. There are a number of products currently on the market which sit on this increasingly hazy line between video and lighting.

Essential have selected Barco’s Mi-Trix and Mi-Strip Scenic LED products, to add to their hire stock, as these are the most exciting to the Live Event set or lighting designer. We are proud to be the first lighting company in the world to offer these contrasting and complementary products for hire, as part of a lighting system.

The modular systems offer a highly creative building block, allowing the scenic video image to be presented across an imaginatively constructed canvas, not simply a rectangular screen. These are an exciting new tool available to produce an entirely new and varied scenic look. These products are deliberately designed and selected to push creativeboundaries and offer unlimited configurability options, both to the eye and to the camera.

Both the Mi-Strip & Mi-Trix products present a high degree of transparency, allowing creative scenic use by combining the products with traditional lighting and scenic techniques. The products can be integrated with many scenic materials and can be used as a transformation surface in a reveal sequence, in place of, for example, traditional gauze.

The content that is presented across this scenic vista can be either custom designed and produced or derived from the stock images on a Media Server. Full integration with the show and lighting system is achieved through the content being controlled and modified by connection of the media server to the show’s lighting desk.

Physical

  • MiTRIX is a lightweight, semitransparent LED panel weighing 1.3Kg
  • It is essentially a cast aluminium, IP rated frame with 8 ribs, populated with an array of LED 16 x 8.
  • Panel dimension is 382mm x 192mm x 60mm

Lamp

Each Mitrix panel is made up of 8 rows of 16 pixels. - 128 pixels per panel.

Control & Programming

  • The creative LED range uses video images that are accurately mapped to the chosen LED configuration using the powerful Director Toolkit software and the D320 digitiser. There is no need for video clips to be pixelmapped into DMX512 signals with the resulting loss of image quality and low refresh rate. The D320 family of digitisers allow advanced image processing of multiple sources, switch from source to source or display video and data sources simultaneously.

  • The Director Toolset is a software tool to set up, configure, manage and control all D320 based systems, with scalable and expandable functionality. The concept of this Director Toolset software is modular. The Director Toolset has an intuitive graphical interface that allows the user to set up multiple configurations that can be controlled simultaneously. Images are optimally mapped to an LED configuration, pixel to pixel. When connected to the hardware the software can detect all elements of the configuration, setups can also be configured offline. Director Toolset can be used to create layouts and print out the mounting and cabling schemes for the creative building blocks.

Power

  • Each tile draws 50w @ full intensity.
  • Each control box draws 6A @ 230VAC
  • Maximum two control boxes per 16amp feed.
